The Four Agreements: A Boudoir Photographer's Review for Empowerment and Confidence
I wish I was the type to be able to sit down with a physical book and read. My mind wanders too much though. [Thanks ADHD]
AUDIO BOOK THOUGH?! - HONEY! THAT’S MY JAM!!
If I read physical books, I imagine my copy of "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz would be soft and tattered. There would be pages folded at the corner and scribbles and highlights through out for things I wanted to remember. I listen to this book at least once a year as a reminder to keep my mental health in check.
In this book, Ruiz explores the concept of personal freedom through the lens of ancient Toltec wisdom. At its core, "The Four Agreements" is about learning to break free from the limiting beliefs and expectations of society, and embracing your true self. This is a message that resonates deeply with me as a boudoir photographer, as I see firsthand the impact that societal pressure can have on a person's self-esteem and body image.
The four agreements themselves are simple yet powerful:
Be Impeccable with Your Word: Choose your words carefully and avoid speaking negatively about yourself or others.
Don't Take Anything Personally: Recognize that other people's opinions and behaviors are a reflection of their own insecurities, and not a reflection of your worth as a person.
Don't Make Assumptions: Instead of assuming the worst, seek to understand and communicate openly with others.
Always Do Your Best: Be kind to yourself and strive to do your best in each moment, recognizing that perfection is not the goal.
These agreements can be applied to any aspect of life, but they are particularly relevant to the world of boudoir photography. By embracing these principles, clients can learn to let go of self-doubt and negative self-talk, and show up in front of the camera as their authentic selves.
In my experience as a boudoir photographer, I have seen the profound impact that this kind of self-empowerment can have on my clients. By letting go of negative self-talk and embracing their true selves, they are able to relax and enjoy the experience, resulting in beautiful, confident photographs that they can be proud of for years to come.
I highly recommend checking out "The Four Agreements." This book offers practical and powerful insights that anyone can relate to!
