LINGERIE LAUNDRY CARE TIPS | Kansas City Boudoir Photographer

Great lingerie is not only delicate, but it can be quite expensive. If you’ve invested in pieces you love and feel confident in, it’s important to know how to properly care for your garments to maintain quality and lengthen their life.

We have all ruined garments in the washer or dryer at least once in our life. And IT SUCKS! Our intimate wear is one of those categories of clothing that come with special handling instructions to make sure it lasts a long time. You want your lingerie to keep its shape and withstand wear after multiple washes.

  • READ THE LABEL before washing any delicate intimate wear. The manufacturer will indicate the best way to care for your garments based on the materials used on the care label. Paying close attention to the details can help reduce risk of damaging intimate wear.

  • HOOK BRAS AND GARTER BELTS before washing to help maintain their shape and reduce the risk of hooks snagging delicate materials.

  • Use COOL WATER when washing intimates. Hot water can break down fabrics and elastics.

  • HANDWASHING is ALWAYS the preferred cleaning method for all intimate and delicate wear. Many washing machines contain an agitator that can be too rough on lacy delicate wear. Lay garments flat to AIR DRY.

  • When you aren’t able to hand wash, the next best option is to use LINGERIE BAGS and the DELICATE CYCLE on your machine. For underwire and padded bra’s, I prefer to use the dome shaped lingerie bags to help keep the shape of your garment. Sticking your intimates in a mesh bag allows water and detergent to flow through while reducing rough pulling and tugging from the spin cycle.

  • WASH DELICATES SEPARATELY from other clothing items. Often times, velcro and zippers from everyday clothes will snag and stick to lacy garments damaging the material. Always separate delicates into their own cycle if you are not hand washing.

  • Don’t forget to CHECK SHEETS, BLANKETS, AND CLOTHING for trapped intimates before tossing into the wash. This week I missed a pair of fishnet stockings that got tangled in my wool blanket in the laundry basket. As you can imagine, the stockings were ruined with fuzzy lint by the time I discovered my mistake.

Did you know I offer a full client closet that is available to use during your boudoir session? Many clients either don’t have their own intimate garments for a session or want to try something outside of their normal style for their experience!
